Tribune Shoutout….
Todd Blackmun was the inaugural winner of the Brian Crosbie Memorial Trophy at the Star Insure Classic SpeedFest at Teretonga Park, Invercargill, at the weekend. The trophy remembers one of Southland’s best saloon car drivers who passed away recently. It was donated by Brian’s family and was contested on the last race for Pre 78 Classic Saloons, a handicap event. Blackmun, of Invercargill, started from scratch in his Datsun 120Y and was never threatened, winning on a wet track from Paul Coghill of Dunedin (Triumph Vitesse) and Rod Sinclair of Clyde (Alfa Romeo Guilia).
Blackmun said he was “very pleased” to take the win. Brian’s son Shane had led the field on a parade lap in a DKW previously raced by his father before the race and Brian’s wife Denise made the presentation.

Why Southland is a gem…. Reason #18
(We think it’s worth reminding ourselves why Southland is such a special place, so that’s what we’ll do regularly)
Ivon Wilson Park. Southland is blessed with many wonderful parks and Ivon Wilson Park in Te Anau is one of them. It is a 35-hectare park with both introduced and native trees and great views of the Fiordland Mountains. It's a great place for families to visit with extensive plantings and many marked trails leading to the picturesque Lake Henry which is stocked with rainbow and brown trout as a children's fishery.
Fishing licences for children (free) are available from the Fiordland National Park Visitor Centre. A lovely 1010-minutealk, mostly along the lake's edge, links the Visitor Centre and the park.
It's a good park for picnicking or walking your dog, and toilets are available near the entrance. There is play equipment including flying foxes in the reserve and also a disc golf course and a mountain bike track. (Blurb credit: Southland NZ)
