Former All Black captain to play at Rugby Park…
Former All Black captain Kieran Read has confirmed he will dust off the boots and take the field in the Pack the Park charity rugby game at Rugby Park in Invercargill.
Five years on from the late Blair Vining’s original bucket list game, Pack the Park 2024 will be played at Rugby Park on Saturday, January 27.
January’s fixture has been labelled the final Pack the Park and is a way to thank those who have backed the Southland Charity Hospital.
Organisers have promised a star-studded lineup of former players and Read’s announcement has gone a long way to back that up.
Read made 127 appearances for the All Blacks and was a member of the 2011 and 2015 Rugby World Cup winning teams.
The 38-year-old finished his professional career playing for Toyota Verblitz in 2021.
Southern Steel training role for talented duo
A commitment to local talent is reflected in the Ascot Park Hotel Southern Steel’s recruitment of two training partners for the 2024 ANZ Premiership season. Shooter Ella Southby and defender Emilie Nicholson have earned contracts with the franchise and will join the ranks when the team embarks on its pre-season campaign in January. (READ MORE HERE).

Podcast launch: A new podcast - Harry’s Sons - has been launched by a couple of Invercargill lads who for the moment are keen to keep a few guessing by simply operating under the names “Fizz” and “Wax”.
The podcast hovers a magnifying glass over some Invercargill matters in a pretty relaxed chat, while also delving into some random life topics.
Along the way, they hope they might be able to help get younger people to take a bit more notice of what’s going on, in what would otherwise might be regarded as pretty mundane topics, such as council matters.
In their early podcasts, Fizz and Wax have roped in The Southland Tribune editor Logan Savory for a guest appearance.
Please Note: If you are offended by the odd swear word, you might want to sit this one out.
