‘Activation’ event attracts hundreds…
Hundreds attended a Te Pati Māori ‘activation’ in Invercargill on Tuesday which was one of many events arranged throughout New Zealand where people showed their disappointment in some of the new Government’s policies involving Māori.
Dave Kennedy, who was a candidate for the Green Party at the last election, said he has organised protests in the past in Invercargill which took weeks to organise and had about 500 attend.
He attended the ‘activation’ on Tuesday in Invercargill and estimated 800 attended with about 24 hours of organisations.
The gathering started in Esk St outside the council building with a karakia and brief speeches.
They walked to Wachner Place where there was a kapa haka performance.
“The general atmosphere was good natured and welcoming and most attending talked about their passion for ensuring a positive future for their mokopuna,” Kennedy said.
“If this government has any sense it will engage with tangata whenua with the same level of sincerity and goodwill that I witnessed today.”
