Grace St Project: 'We need to get it done'
A quest to get a new multi-purpose facility built in South Invercargill has just been provided a $450k boost. The Invercargill Community Connections Charitable Trust (IC2) officially launched The Grace Street Project last year after securing ownership of the former Grace St Chapel building. (READ MORE HERE).
Former Southland Stag signs with NRL club
Former Southland Stags outside back Solomon Alaimalo has signed with NRL club the West Tigers in a move that caught a few by surprise. He has joined the club’s top-30 NRL roster for the 2024 NRL season. (READ MORE HERE).
Invercargill’s over 70-year-olds again dished up Christmas treat…
The first of the ILT’s annual “Over 70s Christmas Dinner” events was held at a packed Ascot Park Hotel in Invercargill last night. [Monday].
The 350 lucky ticket holders enjoyed a three-course meal, good company, and entertainment from local acts throughout the evening.
ILT board members, staff, and their family members volunteered their time to serve guests.
They will do it all again tonight with another 350 guests to be treated at the Ascot Park Hotel.

Ollie's superb 7m leap for his grandfather
Ollie Davis was the standout Southlander at the national secondary school athletics champs last weekend. And it was a special performance for a couple of reasons. The 16-year-old Central Southland College student won the senior boys long jump with a superb leap of 7.07m which earned him selection to the New Zealand Secondary Schools championship team. Cormac Buchanan continues unbeaten NZ Superbike ride
His goal going into the second New Zealand Superbike Championship round was to repeat his season-opening winning streak from Taupo and Southland’s Cormac Buchanan did just that at Manfeild on Sunday. (READ MORE HERE).
New Zealand Cricket issues apology to southern U19 team
“NZC apologised to the Otago team in person on Saturday morning and has also furnished the Otago association with a formal letter of apology. We’re now reviewing our protocols to prevent a repeat of this incident.” (READ MORE HERE)

Southern Volts v Canterbury - Today (Tuesday), 10.30am - Queens Park, Invercargill
Come on weather gods, play your part. Big time New Zealand domestic cricket is scheduled to return to Queens Park in Invercargill today when the Southern Volts host Canterbury in a Ford Trophy fixture.
Although the weather forecast isn’t promising.
The first ball is scheduled to be bowled at 10.30am. It will be another chance for Southland cricket fans to watch one of their own - Jacob Duffy - in action before he joins the Black Caps squad for a ODI series against Bangladesh starting in Dunedin on Sunday.
