This is a story of longevity. Remarkable longevity. Officially the Invercargill Garrison Band - now the Ascot Park Hotel Brass Band of Invercargill - dates back to 1867. However, there have since been mentions of the band found from as far back as 1863. (READ MORE HERE).

City council asked to 'take a pause, have a cup of tea'
A submitter has suggested the Invercargill City Council “take a pause, have a cup of tea” and consider the former H&J Smith department site for a new museum. Although, councillors have noted that the council has already decided to build a new museum at the current Queens Park site and they believe the public simply wants them to get on with it. Inner-city indoor court space set for redevelopment
The Y’s indoor stadium is set for a facelift, with the inner-city space set to be completely renovated and modernised in early 2024. The Y’s Tay Street building includes a full indoor basketball court, behind the fitness centre. Although much loved and well used by community groups, it is in need of remediation. (READ MORE HERE).

The 16-year-old Central Southland College student won the senior boys long jump with a superb leap of 7.07m which earned him selection to the New Zealand Secondary Schools championship team.
