“Oh lawdy, so I went to take my special lady stickers out of their little box on Monday and Lo! Despite my several layers of safety nets and alarms and text notifications and apps I had run out of my lifesaving adhesives. 'Sigh of relief' for farmers as brakes put on new freshwater rules
Farmers will be breathing a sigh of relief, according to Federated Farmers Southland, following the Government is stepping in and stopping Environment Southland from introducing what it says are “unworkable and expensive new farming rules”. (READ MORE HERE).
Flood protection work to begin for Ōtautau
Work will begin this week to enhance the flood protection for the Ōtautau community. The critical flood protection work for Ōtautau covers 19 kilometres of stop bank from Ōtautau to Wreys Bush, and includes planned improvements of erosion control, stop bank reinstatement, and removing crack willow from the Ōtautau Stream. Hospitality downturn: Southland has been the hardest hit region in a hospitality sector that has a seen a drop in spending right throughout the country. ILT had a $625,000 drop in sales last month compared to the same period last year. (READ MORE HERE).
Musuem build: The Invercargill City Council is going the whole hog its new museum opting not to ditch some aspects of the build to try to find cost savings. It was revealed in July that the council cannot build its new museum as per the original budget and needed to come up with at least $12.9 million more for the project to go ahead with the original brief. Reunion tour: Legendary New Zealand band Supergroove will make a stop in Invercargill as part of its reunion tour titled The Phenomenon Tour. Featuring the original ‘95 lineup of the iconic group, the band will come together for a rare series of shows, marking one of the few times they’ve played together in recent years. (READ MORE HERE).
Funding: New Zealand Aluminium Smelter Limited (NZAS), Rio Tinto and Ngāi Tahu have financially backed 14 community, environment and business projects in Southland as part of its latest round of $745,000 in funding. (READ MORE HERE).
