Why Southland is a gem…. Reason #32
(We think it’s worth reminding ourselves why Southland is such a special place, so that’s what we’ll do regularly)
Derek Turnbull Track. Forest Hill Scenic Reserve protects a valuable example of a remnant of New Zealand native forest surrounded by developed agricultural land. A unique reserve, the forest represents the type of native bush once found on limestone outcrops throughout the Southland Plains.
The Derek Turnbull Track is a two hour (one way) trail. This gravel surfaced track links the picnic areas at either end of the reserve. The gradient from the Tussock Creek end is easier.
