Tribune Shoutout….
Sorry, we’re a bit late to this one, but it would be remiss of us not to give a huge Tribune shoutout to Gore lad Ben Lockrose. He produced a stunning display on Sunday to help the Otago Volts beat the Central Stags in a T20 Super Smash cricket fixture.
Best known as a spin-bowler Lockrose put together an unbroken partnership of 81 off 39 balls with Dean Foxcroft. The pair came together after 13 overs, with their side 109-6 chasing 188 at University of Otago Oval in Dunedin.
Lockrose finished 58* off 26 balls to give his team the win with three balls to spare. He’s back in action today with the Volts in a 50-over fixture. You can follow the action here.

Why Southland is a gem…. Reason #6
Our long summer daylight hours. When Auckland backyard cricketers pull stumps in the summer months because it’s too dark those of us in Southland have close to another hour of play ahead.
In this Stuff article in January MetService meteorologist Jessie Owen said on December 21 [the longest day] Invercargill had 15 hours 46 minutes of daylight time, a full 70 minutes more than Auckland’s 14 hours 36 minutes.
