Gore tension began before Mayor was sworn in

Q&A: Finding out more about Gore athlete Max McGregor
“I first became aware of Max at the national cross-country championships in Taupo last year. I was watching the U14 boys race and saw the white singlet of Gore appear over the final hill in the lead. It stayed that way, with Max winning by a good 20 to 30 metres.” (READ MORE HERE).
The generation game at Teretonga Park
There was plenty of banter as a generation game challenge loomed at Teretonga Park in Invercargill ahead of the annual A1 Auto Services 1 Hour Endurance race recently. It is a race Boyd Wilson won in a Ford Falcon alongside Jordan Michels in 2018 while in 2021 Boyd and son Harry finished third in the Falcon. (READ MORE HERE).

Southern Steel v Central Pulse - Saturday, 7.15pm - ILT Stadium Southland
Okay, 2023 has been… well…pretty awful for the Southern Steel. The Steel is winless through 10 games and sits last, 13 competition points behind the next team.
If they ever need the Steel faithful’s support, it’s this Saturday night when they take on the Pulse at the Steel fortress in Invercargill.
Saturday night is the Steel’s first game at ILT Stadium Southland since March 25 and the hope is that could help to provide the lift this team desperately needs.
Why Southland is a gem…. Reason #63
(We think it’s worth reminding ourselves why Southland is such a special place, so that’s what we’ll do regularly)
The Takitimu Mountains are an impressive landform that provides opportunities for tramping, hunting and fishing amongst attractive open beech forest, tussock and screes. The range has dissected valleys and craggy tops that rise to 1650m.
Named after the ancient Maori migration waka (canoe) Takitimu, The Ngāi Tahu Deed of Settlement places a topuni, a special recognition of Ngāi Tahu cultural, spiritual, historic and traditional values, over the Takitimu Mountain Range.
Various tramping tracks and routes traverse the mountains, offering adventurous souls plenty of opportunities for exploring the range. Numerous huts are dotted throughout the area along the trails, providing pleasant places to rest overnight plus protection against the weather.
The hunting of red deer, fallow deer and wild pigs is allowed in the Takitimu Conservation Area, although permits for hunting and dogs must be acquired from the Department of Conservation before your trip.
