Smart move by the ILT. If we can get visitors to stay one extra night in Invercargill we can almost double the tourism send in the city. I haven't seen recent stats but the average length of stay has been around 1.5 nights per person for some years. The Transport Musuem will have altered this as people can spend several hours there.
Tourism operators are up against the lack of vision from the various organisations in the south including our local councils who just can't grab the basics of slowing people down and encouraging them to stay in the city and enjoy all that is on offer.
Good to see some proactive leadership and some faith in what our city has to offer.
Don't team up with the ILT then or any Catering skills you think you have will soon be a distant memory
