Community Remembrance Evening - Tonight (Friday), 6pm - Te Anau
You're invited to a Community Remembrance Evening on Friday 28 July in Te Anau to spend time holding the memory of loved ones in your heart.
All community members are welcome at the Fiordland Community Garden.
Matariki is a time for remembrance. It calls for people to gather together to remember and honour those we have lost. As Matariki rises in the new year, Māori honour the memories of all the people who have passed, and their spirits are released to become stars.
From 6pm: Arrive to a comforting hot soup under the Matariki sky - Kai whenua Matariki - and warm up with the harvest from the Fiordland Community Garden.
*Please BYO mug and spoon for your soup to reduce waste.
6.30pm: Coming together at sunset will be a reminder that our loved ones are always watching over us in the night sky. There will be an opportunity to light a lantern to remember loved ones who have passed. And because this is a family friendly event for all ages, there will be marshmallow roasting for the young and young at heart (caregiver supervision required).
