The story of the last-place finisher who actually won
A remarkable 13 seconds was sliced off the previous Invercargill Park Run course record on Saturday morning. But it wasn’t that moment which prompted tears of joy. It was Melanie Magowan - who finished over an hour later at the tail end of the 129-strong field - who had people wiping their eyes. (READ MORE HERE).

Why Southland is a gem…. Reason #28
(We think it’s worth reminding ourselves why Southland is such a special place, so that’s what we’ll do regularly)
McLean Falls. The 22 metre McLean Falls on the Tautuku River in the Catlins Conservation Park are often described as the most spectacular in the region. The 40-minute return walk to the falls, though uphill, is not too steep and very pleasant, passing through a variety of forest trees and shrubs.
There’s plenty of stunning adventures to enjoy in Southland and McLean Falls is one of them.
Out and About….
Te Manawa Whānau Big Bay Out - Saturday, March 11 - 10am to 4pm.
Nga Kete Matauranga Pounamu Charitable Trust’s Māori Public Health Team, Kōrari, are hosting a free music festival for whānau at Colac Bay.
The Te Manawa Whānau Big Bay Out will be held on Saturday 11 March at Takutai o Te Tītī Marae (outdoors) and will showcase performers such as The Freshies, rangatahi performers, whānau kapa haka and special guests.
The event will also include health and kai stalls, as well as energiser activities in between performances hosted by Māori Public Health Kaimahi Nadine Young.
Kōrari Māori Public Health Manager Karina Davis-Marsden said the event was all about disconnecting from devices and reconnecting with each other.
“Whānau who spend time together, participate in a marae setting and te ao maōri (te reo mea onatikanga, karakia, waiata, whakawhanaukataka,) are more culturally resilient and more likely to be well. Tu Ora, Tu Kaha, Tu Mana, Tu Māori - Be Healthy, Be Strong, Be Proud, Be Māori.”
Whānau are invited to come out to the marae, bring a picnic, chairs and set up in the paddock area.
The event is drug, alcohol, smoke and vape free. Gates will open at 10am.
This is a FREE event; however, you will need to register your whānau to get your e-tickets at this link: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/te-manawa-whanau-big-bay-out-tickets-536554999447
