Lottery Community Committee Otago/Southland and Connected Eastern Southland have supported a free multiplayer video gaming event for kids in Mataura this weekend.

These outcomes lead to increased self-confidence and better social connections.

Why Southland is a gem…. Reason #47
(We think it’s worth reminding ourselves why Southland is such a special place, so that’s what we’ll do regularly)
Tautuku Bay. Tautuku is a spectacular, forest-fringed bay that sweeps round to an impressive headland.
From 1839 to 1846, a whaling station was sited near Tautuku peninsula's neck, and a port was later developed for the fishing, flax and timber industries. When these industries declined, the port was closed. Today, Southern Right Whales (Tohorā) are making a slow comeback and can occasionally be spotted in the waters near the bay. New Zealand Sea Lions (Whakahao) and Yellow-Eyed Penguins (Hoiho) are among the wildlife that can often be seen on beach.
This practically private beach is also a great place to let your dog go for a run (although do make sure there's no wildlife present before letting the go off the leash). (Blurb credit: Southland NZ).
