Two more join by-election contest…
The Invercargill City Council has received two further nominations for the upcoming by-election. They are Graham Lewis and Andrea Murrell.
The pair join David Hicks and Carl Heenan who had handed in their nomination forms earlier in the week.
Lewis was a councillor from 2010 but missed re-election in 2022.
The progress votes at the October 8 election had Lewis in as the 12th councillor by a handful of votes.
However, when the voting was complete, he was edged out by Barry Stewart by 26 votes.
Meanwhile, Murrell had initially been named as part of the Let’s Go Invercargill ticket for the October election but did not end up contesting the election.
She has now officially entered the 2023 by-election race.
The council is holding the by-election to fill the seat at the council table that was vacated by Nigel Skelt.
Nominations will close on Friday, June 8. Voting begins on July 13 and finishes on Friday, August 4.
