Deputy Mayor: 'I’ve got an aversion to nanny state type moves'
Invercargill’s deputy mayor has pushed back at a sinking lid approach to pokie machines in the city saying he’s averse to operating in a “nanny state”. (READ MORE HERE).
Prop expected to miss remainder of season
Loosehead prop Joe Walsh is expected to miss the rest of the Southland Stags season because of injury. Walsh left the field in the second half of the Stags’ 39-29 loss to Counties on Saturday with a calf injury. (READ MORE HERE).
SBHS victory parade cancelled
A parade through Invercargill’s inner-city, to celebrate Southland Boys’ High School’s historic win in the New Zealand Barbarians 1st XV National championships, has been cancelled because of temperamental weather. (READ MORE HERE).

Competitors come from all walks of life with former New Zealand Kart Champions, circuit racers and former Speedway drivers among those who have fallen in love with radio-controlled racing. (READ MORE HERE).
Another day another highlight for the Southland bowls community.
After Julie O’Connell’s gold medal and Sheldon Bagrie-Howley’s bronze at the World Bowls Championships on the Gold Coast, Roger Strong has got in on the act.
Competing for New Zealand at the Deaf Lawn Bowls International Championships in Edinburgh Strong was part of the men’s triples which won gold.
Congrats Roger.

Davis Cup tennis - Friday & Saturday - ILT Stadium Southland, Invercargill
Invercargill is hosting the New Zealand- Thailand Davis Cup tie on Friday and Saturday.
The Davis Cup, known as the World Cup of Tennis, is the premier men’s international teams' tennis competition. It’s yet another top international sporting event for ILT Stadium Southland.

The visibility is just quite a lot less than what the reality would be if people were out and about.
