NZ Music Month…. A Southlander’s song choice
This month is New Zealand Music Month and we at The Southland Tribune are keen to celebrate it. We’ve teamed with the crew at MASSAV Productions and throughout the month we will ask various Southlanders to provide a New Zealand song choice and ask them why they opted for it.
Today’s song selector: JO WARD. Building Coordinator Team Leader - Southland District Council… and a musician herself.
Artist: Netherworld Dancing Toys was a band from Dunedin formed in 1982. In 1985, their single "For Today" reached number 3 in the New Zealand singles chart.
Song selection: For Today.
Why? I love NZ music so this was a very hard choice to make. In the end there was one stand out for me – For Today, Netherworld Dancing Toys. It’s the song that takes me back to hot summer days in my later teenage years, sipping Miami Wine Coolers and hanging with my friends.
The dynamics of the song take me on a journey and it has such a feel-good vibe. It always perks me up when I hear it and gets the endorphins running hot! The brass section is exquisite. As for Annie’s vocals, well what can I say? Soulful and stunning.
